Dear Web-Folks,
The following statement on the US occupation of Iraq was officially adopted by adcom at the Tuesday December 30th meeting in Somerville.  Can you please add this statement to our web-page?

Sincerely,
Aimee Smith
Membership Director, Green-Rainbow Party

The Green-Rainbow Party stands in solidarity with the peoples of Iraq and supports their right under international law to resist the occupation of their country.

I.  US out of Iraq now

We call for the immediate unconditional withdrawal of all US military forces from Iraq, the voiding of all contracts that non-Iraqi corporations have received from the illegitimate US occupation regime and the withdrawal of all other US government organizations from Iraq.  We do not recognize "The Coalition of the Willing" as a legitimate multilateral force.  The occupation of Iraq is a project being carried out by the US with only token support from a few other countries who were either intimidated or purchased into service.

II.  Illegitimate and illegal aggression

a) The US government invaded Iraq with bi-partisan support under false pretenses and with blatant disregard for human life.   We condemn the US government for its illegal invasions and occupation of Iraq including the thirteen-year genocidal sanctions program against the peoples of Iraq.

b) We call for all members of the Bush administration and all top military officers to be tried for war crimes.

c) We condemn all US Senators and Congresspersons who gave up their constitutional authority to declare war to the executive branch.

III. Iraqi Self-determination

The UN has been consistently unable to act independently of US interests with regard to Iraq and it should not take the place of the US as an occupying force in Iraq.  The Iraqis alone must decide what role they may want the UN or any other international organizations to play in reconstructing their country.

IV.  Responsibilities of the USA

a) We call on the US government to fund clean up of toxic waste generated by the use of depleted uranium (DU) weapons casings that have been used with bi-partisan support in the region since the first invasion of Iraq.

b) We call on the US government to declare an immediate ban on the use of DU.

c) We call on the US government to provide reparations to the people of Iraq to rebuild infrastructure that was destroyed by the thirteen-year military and economic crippling of Iraq, and to compensate the Iraqi people for the
enormous losses that the US government has perpetrated against them.

d)  We reject the concept of pre-emptive war.  We call on the US government to stop their imperialist project of military and economic domination of the world.

V.  US Troops

a) We condemn the US government for betraying US military personnel by ordering them to participate in a war for profit that had nothing to do with our nation's defense.

b) We call on the US government to restore health and other benefits to veterans.

c) We support US soldiers who wish to resist any illegal service including service in the illegal occupation of Iraq.

DRAFT RESOLUTION
As was agreed at the last state committee meeting, we would draft a  new anti-war resolution in an ad hoc committee, present to the adcom, solicit feedback from the statecom and then have adcom give the final approval before releasing it to the world (or world wide web in any case) as our party's statement. Below is what we came up with after a few weeks of struggling over the  language. The people who worked on it include members of the communication committee, international  committee of the GPUS, and others. Adcom has given feedback, most of which was incorporated.....In hope, Aimee Smith Membership Director, Green-Rainbow Party [9 Dec 2003]
